[Global Korea] Extended Line Number 9 Still Jammed The congestion of line number 9 continued on the 31st which was the second day of the two stage extension section. Nevertheless, subway users were calm and were able to prevent minor accidents. According to Seoul, subway users increased by 3.6% during the commuting hours compared to last week. This increase is less than it was expected to be, but the subway users felt different. Since there are large number of people using line number 9, the little increase made a big difference. The congestion was expecially noticeable at Kimpo airport station, Gayang station, Yumchang station, Dangsan station and Yeouido station. As soon as the train arrived and the line was shortened, a long line of people was formed in a matter of seconds. This was repeated even on the next day. The most crowded time of the day is in 7:30 in the morning. An office worker Jin Young Lee(27) who we have met at Yumchang station, said that she got up earlier to take the subway because the bus station was too far from her house and it takes longer to get to work. Also, she added that though there are so many people, she would take the general train instead of the express train. The heavy congestion not only a problem in the morning, but also in the evening as well. Kim Ji Sung(39) from Yeouido station said that it is faster to go from Yeoudio to Shin Nonhyun on his way to work and there are less people, but it seems like there are 1.5 times more people when he goes home after work. Seoul has made an effort to promote and publicize "Free Commuting Bus". There were empty seats on these free buses including bus 8663 because not many people were informed of these buses. Seoul is considering to extend the commuting bus route to Express Bus Terminal. Presently, the route is only from Gayang station to Yeouido station. Also, for safety reasons and prevention of negligent accidents, Seoul has increased the number of safety guards from 91 to 460 in 30 stations all together. /파고다어학원 영어회화 Chris Kim(김윤관) 강사 [글로벌 코리아] 연장된 9호선 여전히 혼잡 9호선은 2단계 연장구간 개통 이틀째인 31일에도 혼잡이 계속됐다. 이날 승강장과 열차는 전날과 마찬가지로 혼잡했다. 하지만 시민들은 침착하게 대응해 안전사고를 스스로 막았다. 서울시에 따르면 전날 출근시간대 지하철 이용객은 지난주 같은 시기보다 3.6% 증가했다. 예상보다는 적은 증가 폭이다. 하지만 시민이 체감하는 혼잡도는 높았다. 9호선은 가뜩이나 사람이 많아 이용객 증가는 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 김포공항역, 가양역, 염창역, 당산역, 여의도역 등은 특히 혼잡도가 두드러졌다. 승강장에 열차가 도착하고 긴 줄이 빠지자마자 다시 길게 줄이 늘어섰다. 전날에도 같은 모습이었다. 이용객이 가장 많이 몰리는 시간은 오전 7시 30분께다. 염창역에서 만난 회사원 이진영(27)씨는 "일부러 일찍 나왔다"며 "버스 타기에는 집도 멀고 시간도 오래 걸린다"고 말했다. 그러면서 "어제도 오늘도 사람이 많지만 급행이 아닌 일반열차를 타겠다"고 말했다. 9호선 혼잡은 출근길뿐만 아니라 퇴근길에도 여전했다. 여의도역에서 만난 회사원 김기성(39)씨는 "여의도에서 신논현으로 출근하는데 출근시간이 빠른 편이라 사람이 많지 않아 괜찮지만, 퇴근할 때는 사람이 1.5배 늘어난 것 같다"고 말했다. 서울시는 전날에 이어 이날도 무료 출근버스 홍보에 집중했다. 8663번 등 무료 출근 전용버스를 시민들이 잘 몰라 빈 좌석이 많았기 때문이다. 서울시는 무료 출근버스 운행을 고속터미널까지 연장하는 방안을 검토 중이다. 현재는 가양역부터 여의도역까지만 운행하고 있다. 서울시는 또 안전사고 예방을 위해 당초 30개역에 91명씩 배치됐던 안전요원을 460명까지 늘렸다.
