[김상회의 사주속으로] 청춘도인

도(道)는 말 그대로 길이다. 그래서 도인(道人)은 '길을 아는 사람'이다. 무슨 길을 아는가? 보통은 마음의 길, 정신의 길을 아는 사람들을 지칭한다. 마음의 본성을 알고 정신의 진리를 깨칠 만한 사람은 연령대가 대충은 중장년을 넘어서 노년인 것이 보통이다. 도를 안다는 것은 마음의 사계, 봄 여름 가을 겨울을 다 경험해서 하나를 통해 열을 아는 지혜로서 통찰지가 열리고 그래서 생과 사를 뛰어넘음을 뜻한다. 그런데 하나, 길거리에서 "도를 아십니까?"라고 불쑥불쑥 물어대는 어느 종교인들은 파릇파릇, 대체로 단정하게 옷매무새를 갖추고 보통 남녀 2인 일조로 다니며 묻는 젊은 층들이다. 그들은 청춘 도인인가? 그런데 필자는 신문 내용을 보며 감동이었다. 20세의 여러분도 알고 계실 피아니스트 임윤찬 군이 클래식의 노벨상이라 불리는 그라모폰 2관왕을 수상하면서 밝힌 소감은 도인의 경지였다. 한국인들뿐만 아니라 전 세계인들을 놀라게 했던 반 클라이번 콩쿠르 우승의 감동이 엊그제 같은데, 다시 한번 클래식 음악계에 놀라운 업적을 남긴 것이다. 그의 수상 소감을 다 옮길 순 없지만 "모든 게 연결된 세상…. 제가 태어나서 접한 처음 접한 음악인 부모님의 말투로 시작해… 내가 접한 모든 사람에게 감사"한다는 조용하지만 강력한 말이었다. 젊은 친구에게서 세상에 대한 겸손함과 진솔한 통찰이 느껴진다. 어떤 한 분야에 전통하고 실력을 갖추면 역시 도인 취급을 받는다. 그래서 다도가 경지에 오르면 다성(茶聖)이 되는 것이며, 서예에 달통하면 서성(書聖)으로 불리며 베토벤이 음악의 성인 악성(樂聖)으로 불리듯이 말이다. 천부적 재능을 갖춘 데다가 정신세계마저 깊다. 향후에 클래식 피아노 음악계에 깊은 울림과 발자취를 남길 대성(大聖)을 기대해 본다.

[김상회의 사주속으로] 주식과 채권은 다른가

금융이 발달하면서 재테크 투자 수단은 갈수록 늘어나고 있다. 금 외환 광물 식량 가상화폐 등 예전에는 상상도 못 했던 상품들이 재테크에 활용되고 있다. 투자 방법이 다양해졌지만, 가장 많은 투자자가 활용하는 수단은 주식과 채권이다. 국어사전에서 투자라는 단어의 뜻을 '이익을 얻기 위해 주권, 채권 따위를 구입하는 일'이라고 할 만큼 주식과 채권은 전통적인 투자 수단이다. 주식과 채권은 세세하게 살펴보면 투자 방법 성격 등이 크게 다르다. 주식은 회사를 설립할 때 자금을 모으기 위해 판매하는 유가증권이다. 주식회사는 투자자들에게 자금을 모은 다음 투자 액수만큼 주식을 준다. 투자자는 주식의 지분만큼 그 회사를 소유한 것으로 보면 된다. 주식에 투자하면 수익을 얻을 수 있는데 하나는 배당금이고 또 하나는 거래수익이다. 배당금은 회사에 이익이 생기면 그 이익의 일부를 주식을 소유하고 있는 주주로서 나누어 받는 것이다. 거래수익은 소유한 주식을 시장에서 팔아 차익을 얻는다. 주식은 회사의 실적이 좋으면 주가가 상승하고 팔았을 때 수익을 올릴 수 있다. 그러나 회사 실적이 나쁘면 주가가 내려가고 반대로 손실을 볼 수도 있다. 채권은 회사나 정부 등이 일반 투자자에게 자금을 조달하면서 발행하는 차용증서라고 할 수 있다. 채권은 빌린 자금의 액면가가 정해져 있고 이자율과 만기도 정해져 있다. 만기는 1년 이하에서 10년에 이르기까지 다양하다. 정부가 발행한 채권은 국채 회사가 발행하면 회사채 지방자치단체가 발행하면 공공채라고 부른다. 채권 투자는 만기에 원리금을 받아 수익을 올리는 방법이 있고 채권 가격이 올랐을 때 시장에서 직접 팔아 수익을 낼 수도 있다. 주식과 채권은 위험도와 수익률에서 큰 차이가 있다.

[김상회의 사주속으로] 우정의 세계

관포지교도 수어지교(水魚之交)처럼 물고기가 물 없이 살 수 없듯이 친구 사이의 우정이 그렇게 생명과도 같은 관계라는 의미이다. 한자의 사자성어 중 지란지교(芝蘭之交)도 친구 사이가 지초와 난초만큼 향기롭고 맑은 품격 있는 우정을 나눈다는 뜻이다. 지란지교는 공자가 언급한 것으로 알려져 있다. 공자는 성정이 바른 사람과 같이 하면 마치 향기로운 지초와 난초가 방안에 함께 있듯 그렇게 서로가 향기롭게 동화됨을 의미함을 말했다 에서 유래된 것이다. 고대 그리스의 철학자인 아리스토텔레스는 "친구는 제2의 재산이다." 라 했다. 인생의 여러 고난과 시련을 만날 때 자못 친구가 있어 힘이 되어 주고 받을 수 있다면 삶에 그런 재산이 없을 것이다. 필자도 자문해 보니 쉽게 답을 하기가 만만치 않음이다. 중국 제자백가 중 도가의 대표적 인물인 장자(壯子)도 이와 유사한 고사가 있다. 하루는 장자가 아들을 불러 진정한 친구가 몇 명이나 되냐고 묻자 아들은 손으로 꼽을 수 없을 만큼 많다고 대답했다. 이에 장자는 아들에게 말하길, 실수로 살인을 저질렀는데 이를 숨기기 위해 친구의 도움을 받으라고 하자 아들은 진정한 친구라 생각한 사람들의 집에 시체를 지고 갔지만 모두 외면을 했다. 이에 아들은 당황했고 이번에는 장자가 자신의 친구 집을 찾아갔더니 친구는 "우선 이리 들어와 정신을 가다듬고 차분하게 처리하세."라며 받아들였다는데, 살인은 장자가 아들을 가르치려고 한 설정이었고 시체라고 한 것은 갓 잡은 멧돼지였다는 얘기다. 꼭 이와 같은 과장된 설정이 아닐지라도 형편이 좋을 때만 친구인 경우가 우리 인간사에는 허다하다. 영미권에서도 "필요할 때 친구가 진정한 친구다."(A friend in need is a friend indeed.) 라는 속담이 있다. 여러분은 어떠신지.

[김상회의 사계] 은행은 어떻게 생겨났을까

현대는 금융의 시대다. 금융은 돈의 흐름이라고 할 수 있다. 돈이 오고 가면서 거래를 하는 것이 금융이기 때문이다. 돈을 맡기거나 빌리는 것이 금융의 기본이다. 현대 사회에서 금융은 경제생활의 원천이고 바탕이다. 초등학교부터 금융교육을 해야 한다는 주장이 나오는 것은 그 정도로 금융이 중요하다는 것을 보여준다. 금융기관의 원조는 은행이다. 은행은 금융의 원산이고 가장 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 금융의 중심인 은행은 언제 어떻게 생겨났을까. 은행에 대한 지식을 갖추는 것도 금융 실력을 키우는 토대가 된다. 은행의 유래에 대한 기록은 유럽에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 똑 부러지는 정설이 있는 것은 아니고 여러 가지 기록을 모아보면 은행의 유래를 유추할 수 있다. 은행업과 비슷한 업종은 고대에도 있었지만 현대와 비슷한 형태의 은행은 14세기 이탈리아에서 시작한 것으로 알려져 있다. 13세기쯤 유럽에서는 돈 대신에 금으로 상업 거래를 했다. 그런데 금을 가지고 다니려니 무게도 무겁고 부피도 커서 여간 불편한 게 아니었다. 이런 불편함을 해소하려고 사람들은 일정액의 보관료를 주면서 튼튼한 금고를 가지고 있는 금 세공업자들에게 금을 맡겼다. 세공업자들은 보관증을 발행했는데 이 보관증이 상업 거래 수단이 됐다. 금고에 금이 있는 세공업자들은 이를 상업적으로 활용했다. 돈이 급한 사람들에게 대출을 주었고 그 대가로 이자를 받았다. 남의 금으로 세공업자들이 돈을 번 것이다. 이런 사실을 알게 된 금 주인들은 거세게 항의했고 세공업자들은 무마에 나섰다. 대출로 받은 이자 중에서 일부를 금으로 주인들에게 나눠 준 것이다.
