현대제철 당진제철소

현대제철 당진제철소는 자동차에 최적화된 철강재를 직접 생산·공급하는 곳이다. 현대·기아차가 쇳물부터 완성차에 이르기까지 세계 처음으로 수직일관화를 이루게 된 의미있는 장소다. 자동차 경쟁력 강화에 나서겠다는 정몽구 현대자동차그룹 회장의 강한 의지가 현대제철의 예상보다 빠른 성장세를 이끌었다는 평가를 받고 있다.

현대제철은 특수강 공장 상업생산도 내년 2월부터 시작한다. 이곳에서는 봉강과 선재를 각각 60만t, 40만t 등 연간 총 100만t을 생산하게 된다. 이로써 자동차 철강소재 전문제철소를 완성하고 미래 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있을 것으로 현대제철은 전망하고 있다.
