MERS, China's Problem

While MERS spread throughout Korea, a survey was made to the critics of Hong Kong. 80% stated that this incident gave a negative image of Korea. Chinese feel no different from Hong Kong people. But the government's perspective toward this incident is nearsighted. There is no sign of concern for China. Rather, they are planning to advertise in terms of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Preventing the spread of MERS is an urgent matter in Korea, but there are many more departments in the government other than Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. 메르스 사태, 문제는 중국이다

한국에서 메르스 사태가 심화되는 동안 홍콩의 봉화망은 누리꾼을 대상으로 긴급 설문조사를 실시했다. 응답자의 약 80%가 "(한국인의 메르스 전파와 격리 거부로)한국 국민의 전체적 이미지에 영향을 끼쳤다"고 답했다. 중국 본토에서도 누리꾼들의 반응은 홍콩과 크게 다르지 않다.

하지만 메르스 사태를 바라보는 정부의 눈은 여전히 근시안적이다. 시선을 돌려 중국을 살피는 기미조차 안 보인다. 문화체육관광부 차원에서 홍보나 하겠다고 한다. 국내의 메르스 확산을 막아내는 게 발등에 떨어진 불인 것은 맞다. 하지만 정부에 보건복지부나 문체부만 있는 게 아니다. 남의 집 불구경하듯 할 때가 아니다.
