[Global Korea]Free distribution of Hangeul font contributes to the development of Hangeul culture

Having Hangeul day ahead, Hangeul fonts that are created by organizations are receiving much attention.

The fonts with fascinating design and practicality are being distributed to general public for free and they contribute to the development of Hangeul culture by exchanging the value of sharing.

Besides, the fonts are being used as a marketing tool since they show the corporate image and identity of companies.

Hyundai card (representative Jung-Daeyoung) is the first organization that created its own company font.

The company created its own font 'You and I' in 2004 and it has been used in all the official documents as well as Hyundai card.

You and I mean that it is a communication tool that connects consumers (YOU) and Hyundai card (I).

'한글날'을 앞두고 각 기업들이 독자 개발한 한글 서체(書體)가 관심을 받고 있다.

디자인과 실용성을 담은 각 기업들의 한글 서체는 일반 대중에게 무료로 보급, 나눔의 가치도 공유하며 건강한 한글 문화 발전에 기여하고 있다.

또 글자만으로 기업의 이미지와 정체성이 드러나며 한글 지키기 노력에 더해 마케팅 수단으로도 활용되고 있다.

현대카드(대표 정대영)는 국내 최초로 기업 서체를 개발한 기업이다.

2004년 기업 전용 서체 '유앤아이'를 개발했으며 현재까지 현대카드 등 상품에는 물론 사내에서 공식적으로 사용하는 모든 문서에 사용되고 있다.

유앤아이는 고객(YOU)과 현대카드(I)를 연결해주는 커뮤니케이션 툴이라는 뜻을 담고 있다. 서체 모든 글자에 현대카드의 물리적인 형태와 각도, 비율(1.6:1)을 포함시켰다. 최초 개발 후 8년 간의 보완 작업을 거쳤으면 2012년 제목뿐만 아니라 일반 본문에서도 편하게 쓰고 읽을 수 있도록 완성됐다./스피킹전문 EDB 영어회화학원 대표강사 닥터 벤
