"KT's hierarchy fan is reminiscent of the Joseon Dynasty"

As part of a highly controversial internal program to promote and streamline employee interactions, KT has recreated hierarchical, society-themed fans which hearken back to the Joseon Dynasty. These fans serve to distinguish KT's executive officers as part of a "noble class," which in turn rules over the company's other "subjects", the lower-spectrum employees. Such a program is considered retrogressive, especially in light of the new wave egalitarianism being championed by industrialized nations all over the world. The deeply discriminatory, and potentially divisive nature of such a program is evident by the fact that executive officers' fans boast copy reading "Executive," and "Empowerment Number One," embossed on their sides. As such, this issue has been formally denounced by the National Human Rights Commission as well as several other civic groups. In light of KT's decision, the National Human Rights Commission has issued a warning to the company about the potential lasting divisive repercussions of intentionally entrenching such a deeply hierarchical system in the day-to-day workings of the company.

KT 조선시대 연상케 한 '계급 부채'논란

KT가 임원을 '왕'에 비유하고 사원을 '일당백'이라고 표현하는 등 조선시대 같은 계급사회를 강조하는 내용이 담긴 부채를 전국 KT 직원에게 배포해 물의를 일으키고 있다. 최근 소통을 중시하는 근대 사회에 역행하는 '양반과 천민' 같은 계급 사회를 조장하는 모습이다. 국가인권위원회와 참여연대 등 시민단체의 질타가 이어지고 있다.

부채의 그림을 면면이 살펴보면 임원용 부채는 임원을 임금으로 표현하고 '임파워먼트 넘버원'이라는 문구가 적혀 있다. 부채에 임금복장을 한 그림의 얼굴 부위에 임원이라고 큰 글자로 인쇄해 계급을 구분짓고 있다.
